The Forest of Aignan was given to the local people in 1640 by the Duchess of Bouillion
and this is the only house ever to be built in this tranquil and protected place.
Wildlife abounds here with Roe deer, Wild boar, badgers, red squirrel and a host of wild birds including Hoophoes,nuthatch woodcock, woodpeckers ,buzzards ,kite and peregrine falcons.

The park and gardens which extend to 2 hectares are easily maintained and give directly onto the national forest on every side. They have been free of chemicals for the past 10 years and the park is mowed to encourage wild flowers of many varieties including orchids.

The lake at the other side of the forest is wonderful for hot summer afternoon bathing and has a beach , fishing and a small café.

The local village Aignan boasts 4 cafes/restaurants with an abundance of local cuisine – fois gras and confite de canard ,as well as an excellent supermarket
