Le Pouldu and the surrounding area
Situated at the edge of the Pays de Cornouaille in the south of the Finistère region of Brittany, Clohars-Carnoët offers a multitude of colours with a rich heritage and strong Breton culture. Sea, beaches and countryside - the perfect place to unwind.
With a coastline stretching over 11km, Clohars-Carnoët is a magnificent commune, with its natural border formed by the opening of the river Laïta which also forms the border between Finistère and the neighbouring region of Morbihan. Traditional Breton life is anchored here with its quaint fishing ports and white, sandy beaches which carve out its landscape.
Le Pouldu, a village of only 800 inhabitants is situated on the Laïta estuary. Its sleepy fishing port, the winding streets and old fashioned buildings are charged with history and it remains relatively undiscovered by hoardes of overseas visitors, as in the neighbouring department of Morbihan. Indeed, this part of Finistère is the perfect escape from the busy lives that most of us lead. Le Pouldu is also famous for its immediate proximity to 3 sandy beaches: Les Grands Sables, Bellangenet and Le Quéron.
Although a traditionally sleepy village, there is much in the nearby area to do. For example, there is a nearby sailing school and it is the perfect place to practice watersports. Every saturday (and wednesday in the summer) the market offers a variety of local produce from fruit and vegetables to seafood from the region, and there is a veritable ambince surrounding it.
Even though Le Pouldu borders the department of Morbihan, it currently benefits from incredibly low entry prices as it is still in Finistère. In recent years, Morbihan has seen a flood of ex-pats and overseas visitors and as a result, the house prices has boomed. Le Pouldu, still benefits from the excellent climate experienced by Morbihan yet is still untouched by this surch of overseas buyers making prices in this part of Brittany incredibly attractive. If looking for a secondary home, therefore, this is the most ideal location for a tranquil getaway.
