| | | The Location
The area of La Plagne is made up of 11 separate villages with a total ski area of 225km. La Plagne 1800 is one of the more traditional of these villages at a high altitude, with a tranquil environment and many tree lined ski runs. It started life as a lead mining village and therefore is steeped in history and culture. There are fantastic facilities within the resort, which are what would be expected of a major ski resort. This includes shops, bars, restaurants, an ice skating rink, swimming pool and a cinema.
There are many activities to participate in La Plagne including paragliding, dog sledding, snow shoe walking, ice climbing, tobogonning and cross country skiing. There has also been an emphasis on introducing more activities for non-skiers in the last couple of years, which include guided tours around the area and an introduction to craftwork.
The ski domain of La Plagne is right at the heart of the Paradiski ski area, facing Mont Blanc and Beaufortain ranges, in the Savoie region. It has extensive intermediate runs plus plentiful excellent off piste terrain and there is something for all levels of skiers and boarders. Plagne 1800 has now been made easier by the completion of a bridge in Plagne Centre allowing skiers safe and uninterrupted access by piste over the main road. There is also the 7cube, which is a 900 metre long snowpark entirely dedicated to the practice of freestyle.
Thanks to the the link between Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne via the Vanoise Express, the Paradiski ski area is now one of the largest as well as one of the most diverse in the world. This area has a huge 425km of pistes (239 runs) for skiers and boarders of all levels, served by 175 ski lifts. It also boasts an impressive 5 snow parks, 2 glaciers and 2 summits at an altitude of more than 3000 metres! The “Vanoise Express” cable car connects all of Les Arcs with La Plagne and Peisey-Vallandry creating a very accessible area. It is the most prestigious cable car in the world providing a panoramic view of Mont Blanc, the Italian Alps and the Vanoise summits.
