The Location
The beautiful old town of Alenya is ideally located only 30 minutes from Perpignan with its international airport, close to the Spanish border and only 90 minutes from the ski slopes of the Pyrenees. Alenya is rich in history and culture with many wonderful buildings and traditonal French residences, giving the town an authentic, idyllic feel.
In close proximity is Saint Cyprien Plage which has the second largest small-boat port in the Mediterranean, and a beach stretching six kilometres. In the past 15 years this town has grown a lot, new houses have been built mainly for French people to use for vacationing so inward investment and ongoing potential growth is likely.
There are many activities in the surrounding area to fill your days including a trip to the local championship golf course just south of Perpignan, a renowned location between the sea and the lakes with the Pyrenees mountains in the background. This is a challenging 18 hole par 73 championship course, which wil certainly challenge and satisfy the best of players.
Access
The easiest way is by air. There are several airports in reasonably close distance. The closest one is situated in Perpignan just 30 minutes away. It is also possible to fly to Barcelona, Carcassonne or Montpellier.
The Region
The Languedoc Roussillon region is the French part of Catalonia. This becomes obvious when you see that the road signs have both French and Catalan names and you frequently hear people speaking in the ancient languages of the region, Catalan and Occitan. Indeed the region, derives its name from Langue dOc (Language of the Oc). There is a wide range of French and traditional Spanish cuisines on offer, in particular some superb fish dishes.
Within this region there are several places worth visiting. Perpignan is a bustling, dynamic city with a rich history and the old walled city of Carcassonne built by the Romans is also quite fascinating.
In the city of Tautavel you can visit the Museum of the Prehistoric Man this was opened after a 450,000 year old man was found in a cave close to the village. Finally if you do have access to a car it is definitely worth taking a trip up into the Pyrenees for a day where you will find plenty of activities to keep you busy.
