The Location

Le Grand Bornand is ideally situated at the heart of the Massif des Aravis in Haute Savoie, between the Mont Blanc, Annecy Lake and Switzerland. It is a popular tourist resort thanks to the breathtaking scenery, skiing and facilities but also a charming village with an all year round community.


The location is divided at two altitudes: the Grand Bornand Village at 1000 metres, which is traditionally Savoyard with its village square, church and shops and a backdrop of the Vallee du Bouchet. Six kilometres further up, on the road of Col de la Colombiere lies Le Grand Bornand Chinaillon at 1300 metres. This is the main departure for skiing and the location of the Vieux Village, dating back to the 17th century. The whole area is very well preserved and any construction takes the heritage and environment into consideration. There are more than 400 chalets in the region, which are over a hundred years old.



Skiing & Other Activities

Skiing has been practised in the region for over 100 years and there are a total of 43 pistes to suit all levels of skiers and boarders. As well as the 90km of pistes there is a snowpark with four different zones, which makes the practice of freestyle accessible to all. The skiing domain is between altitudes of 1300m and 2100m, with most slopes tree lined and north/south facing guaranteeing a long period of sunshine and abundant snow falls thanks to the proximity of la Chaine des Aravis. It is possible to buy a ski pass for the ski domaine of Aravis, which incorporates Le Grand Bornand, La Clusaz, Manigod and Saint-Jean-de-Sixt offering a total of 220km of pistes. The link between La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand is by bus, which is free for skiers with a ski pass for the whole area.


For the non skiers there are also plenty of other activities to be enjoyed in this beautiful village, such as ice skating, snow shoe walking, ice climbing, adventure walks in the forest, snowmobiling and paragliding. The facilities are what you would expect from any quality ski resort with plenty of shops, restaurants and bars as well as a cinema, library and trips to the sites of historical interest within the region.



Access

The chalet is easily accessible by aeroplane, with airports at Annecy (35 mintues away), Geneva (50 minutes away) and Lyon (less than 2 hours away). If travelling by train, the nearest station is Annecy with daily links by bus to Le Grand Bornand.
